Why we have a Privacy Policy and why it is important!
A privacy policy is an important part of doing business in the present day and age. Our privacy policy aims to help you understand why we collect information, what information we collect, how we store information, how we dispose of information, and what your rights are with respect to your personal information being held.
It is our aim to be honest and open about how we handle personal information and to install full confidence in our customers that our policies are sound and responsible. Student Phone Store is committed to handling information responsibly and collecting only information necessary for the products and services we provide. Student Phone Store abides by the new privacy legislation of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

StudentPhones is a marketer, dealer, and retailer of cellular phones and services in Canada. We offer services from a variety of network providers. Additionally, we deal with consultants and third parties that may have limited access to information we collect. Information is disclosed on a need to know basis. We require contractors to acknowledge that they are PIPEDA conpliant.
Why Student Phone Store collects Personal Information
Student Phone Store collects personal information primarily for the following purposes:
- To provide cellular carriers with credit information they need to issue your order
- To provide cellular carriers with information needed to set up an account
- To verify your status as a full-time student
- To provide other suppliers with information to complete an order
- To be used for general demographic statistic
- To fulfill requests for information in newsletters and updates
- For accounting and auditing
Some examples of the type of personal information we collect for those purposes include:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone
- Age
- Credit Card Information
- Social Insurance Number
- information necessary to identify student status
Holding Personal Information:
The following are the policies of Student Phone Store with respect to holding and protecting personal information:
- Paper information is very limited, copied electronically and paper copy destroyed by shredder.
- Credit card and Social Insurance Numbers are kept only as long as it takes to approve a client?s credit. Once this happens the information is permanently deleted.
- During the time the Credit Card and SIN information is held it is protected with 128 bit encryption and accessible only through a stringent password system.
- All electronic personal information is accessible only to authorized individuals with assigned usernames and distinct passwords.
- Electronic information is transmitted through secure lines.
- All contractors and employees are trained and knowledgable in Student Phone Store?s privacy policies.
Disposal of Personal Information:
Student Phone Store has a strict policy on the retention of personal information. Sensitive information including credit card, social insurance number, drivers license, and bank account details are held only as long are needed to fulfill an order. We aim to keep this information no longer than one week and usually is only required for a period of 1 to 3 days. Other personal information collected by Student Phone Store is retained for a longer amount of time for reasons listed under ?why we keep personal information?. After a period of 24 months all information relating to your account will be disposed of unless there are reasonable grounds for retaining the information for a longer period.
Any paper documents containing personal information are put through a shredder at time of disposal. All electronic information is deleted permanently from our system and old computers have their hard drives destroyed at the time of disposal.
Access to Information and Consent:
Personal information belonging to your self can be accessed at any time. By calling Student Phone Store and positively identifying yourself, we will disclose any and all personal information we retain. You can also request for us to modify the information we retain if it is inaccurate. Finally, you also have the right to withdraw consent from Student Phone Store. Any of these things can be done by phone, email, or letter to the Student Phone Store Privacy Officer.
